Grow, Innovate, Succeed! We have an exciting opportunity for a Marine Electrical, Electronic and Control Systems Engineer based at the I&J Trawling Division in Cape Town’s Waterfront. In this role, you will be responsible for projects on the I&J’s trawler fleet and provide advanced technical support across a wide range of marine systems.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to: Technical Service Manager
Key Areas of Impact:
- Plan, execute, and close off marine electrical and electronic projects across the I&J trawler fleet.
- Determine project scope, budget and timelines and manage tender and procurement processes.
- Coordinate and supervise contractors and internal teams during installation, refit and commissioning phases.
- Ensure compliance with quality control plans and safety standards.
- Provide advanced technical support and fault diagnosis for vessel electronics, propulsion and control systems.
- Liaise with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to resolve complex equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit project documentation, commissioning reports and cost analyses.
What It Takes to Succeed:
Experience that set you up for success:
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a marine engineering, vessel electronics, or electrical systems environment.
- Experience in navigation and communication equipment - Furuno, Simrad, Sailor and more.
- Understanding of control systems, propulsion electronics and automation systems.
- Exposure to electrical distribution, pump systems and motor control like star-delta, soft starters and VSDs.
- Experience in project coordination, installations or vessel refit work.
Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:
- A formal Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Marine Engineering or Electronics
- Professional registration - ECSA or similar would be advantageous
- Project Management certification would be advantageous
We Will Also Consider Candidates With:
- Radio Technician or Radio Engineer backgrounds with proven experience in radar, sonar and marine communications systems.
- Experience from naval, offshore oil & gas or ship repair environments with transferable technical skills.
