Shape the Future with Us! A rewarding opportunity awaits a Discharge Charge hand at I&J Trawling in the Waterfront, Cape Town. Your role will be to assist with the safe and efficient offloading of vessels, including operating wharf cranes and forklifts (Hyster), transporting goods, and supervising cleaning and icing processes. Ensure all fish handling and dispatch activities are carried out in line with safety and hygiene standards to support operational efficiency and quota targets.
Reporting Structure:
- Reports to: Shore Operations Coordinator
Key Areas of Impact:
- Conduct quayside and vessel inspections in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and checklists.
- Assist with vessel movements while in port and ensure only certified equipment and qualified personnel are used.
- Maintain a clean, safe and HACCP compliant quayside environment at all times.
- Report maintenance issues and support general upkeep of quayside and facilities.
- Be available for overtime and standby call-outs as required.
- Supervise contract labour to ensure productivity, safety and adherence to standards.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and housekeeping regulations.
- Oversee vessel discharge processes and ensure proper handling procedures are followed.
- Coordinate the dispatch of fish to designated I&J locations.
- Manage bin control, ensuring clean bins are received and dirty bins are returned appropriately.
What It Takes to Succeed:
Experience that set you up for success:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Marine environment quayside functions
- Minimum 1 year administrative experience and working on SAP
Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:
- Completed Grade 12 / Matric or NQF 4
Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:
- Valid Driver Licence
- Valid Hyster Licence and Crane licence
- Valid Dangerous good Licence and PDP
- Valid Riggers licence and Stacking License
- First Aid and Fire Fighting
